For the first time amazon purchases 11 Jets to ship orders faster.<br />For the first time, Amazon purchases 11 jets to ship orders faster.<br /><br />On Tuesday, Amazon said it purchased 11 jets from Delta and WestJet airlines to boost its growing delivery network and get orders faster for shoppers.<br /><br />It is the first time it has purchased aircraft for its delivery network, the company said. Amazon has been leasing planes to build its fleet over the past couple of years.<br /><br />"Having a mix of both leased and owned aircraft in our growing fleet allows us to better manage our operations," Sarah Rhoads, vice president of Amazon Global Air, said in a blog post.<br /><br />Amazon, based in Seattle, has been working on delivering most of its packages itself and relying less on UPS, the U.S. The Postal Service and other transport companies.<br /><br />In addition to its fleet of airplanes, Amazon has also constructed a number of airport package sizing hubs and opened warehouses where shoppers live. <br />
