Feb. 27, is Pokémon Day. <br />Here are some facts about the franchise you may not have known.<br />1. Rhydon was the first Pokémon created.<br />According to GamesRadar, though Arceus is the oldest character in the game's universe, Rhydon was the first to be designed.<br />2. Clefairy was nearly the face of the franchise.<br />Producers reportedly opted to give Pikachu the honor after the comic was adapted for TV, but Clefairy reigned in the original comics.<br />3. Pokémon characters have appeared on real money.<br />The South Pacific island of Niue prints their own money, occasionally making special coins. In 2001, they put various Pokémon on the back of one-dollar coins.<br />4. Pokémon characters have appeared on the cover of 'TIME' Magazine.<br />It's the only video game franchise to have been featured on the cover.<br />5. A Pokémon episode once sent viewers to the hospital.<br />According to ScreenRant, an episode that aired in Japan on Dec. 16, 1997, caused blindness, seizures and convulsions in over 685 viewers.
