Clashes broke out at a protest against police brutality in Athens.<br />Over 5,000 protesters gathered, after a police officer beat a man during a coronavirus lockdown inspection.<br />A video of the beating surfaced on social media and caused an uproar.<br />It shows a police officer hitting a man with a baton, as at least three other officers stand nearby.<br />At the protest clashes broke out when demonstrators headed to a police station in the Nea Smyrni neighbourhood.<br />Police used tear gas while protesters threw fireworks and projectiles.<br />A preliminary investigation into the beating has been launched by Athens’ public prosecutor’s office.
