India reported 89,129 new Covid-19 cases and 714 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry. This is the highest single-day rise in cases since September 2020. <br /> <br />As the second wave of the pandemic rages on in the country, several states are putting in place curbs and restrictions to control the spread of the virus. <br /> <br />Maharashtra on Friday reported 47,827 new cases. With the surge in Covid-19 cases, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday said that new set of restrictions, maybe even a lockdown, will be imposed in the state if the situation persists.
