In this easy drawing tutorial, the third in my series on drawing for beginners, I explain how to use shading to create depth and distance in a drawing. I demonstrate how, by varying the pressure on the pencil, you can create different tones of shading. I then focus on two important techniques:

1. Contrast - by creating contrast you can make objects appear to stand out, dark against light will often make the lighter object stand out.
2. Shading objects lighter next to dark objects, the darker objects will often come forward, this is the basis of creating depth in a drawing.

You can use any pencil for this exercise, but the softer pencils, 2B, 4B, 6B will work best.

For more art tutorials designed for beginners and those more experienced at drawing and painting, plus hints and tips - visit my website:-
https://paulpriestley.com

Want to support Art Tutorials Online make more videos and receive great rewards in return?
