11 States Move To Cut Off <br />Federal Unemployment Benefits.<br />11 Republican-led states are making moves to opt out<br />of federal unemployment programs.<br />They are Montana, Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho,<br />Iowa, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota,<br />South Carolina, Tennessee and Wyoming.<br />Benefits could end as early as June 12.<br />The funds offered by the American Rescue<br />Plan run through September 6. .<br />This includes the extra $300 in weekly aid that was<br />being paid out in addition to typical state benefits.<br />The long-term unemployed, self-employed and gig<br />workers would lose their benefit entitlements outright. .<br />The decision to stop unemployment benefits is<br />likely due to current labor shortages. .<br />Officials claim these “enhanced benefits”<br />are keeping people from returning to work and<br />therefore causing the shortages. .<br />President Joe Biden has countered<br />these claims and argued that businesses <br />are failing to offer a “decent wage.” .<br />We also need to recognize that people<br />will come back to work if they're paid<br />a decent wage … [If] these companies<br />will provide fair wages and safe work<br />environments.
