Pharrell Williams Announces Plan to Open<br />Private Schools for Low-Income Families.<br />Williams is taking action to help<br />families in his home state, Virginia. .<br />The musician revealed to ‘The Virginian-Pilot’ that<br />he plans to open a number of private schools specifically<br />for low-income families. .<br />The schools will address the “fixed and unfair”<br />education system by offering <br />“future-forward education” to students.<br />We don’t want lockstep learning where<br />so many kids fall behind; we want bespoke<br />learning designed for each child, where<br />the things that make a child different are<br />the same things that will make a child<br />rise up and take flight, Pharrell Williams, to ‘The Virginian-Pilot’.<br />The first school, Yellowhab, will open to<br />elementary-aged students in the fall of 2021. .<br />[Yellowhab will offer] an immersive<br />educational environment that sparks<br />imagination in a story-filled space<br />where children transcend the [every day]<br />on a journey for deeper learning, Yellowhab, via website.<br />40 to 50 students in grades 3 to 5 will be offered<br />a spot at Yellowhab via a lottery system. .<br />Applicants will be selected based on need, including<br />family income requirements and being qualified for<br />the Federal Free and Reduced-Price Lunch program.<br />The price of attendance for all students will be<br />free for at least the first year, with costs covered<br />by philanthropic support
