CDC Bans Dogs From <br />More Than 100 Countries, Citing Rabies Risk.<br />According to NBC News, the <br />ban will go into effect July 14.<br />The CDC reportedly said the decision was <br />prompted by an increase in inadequate <br />rabies vaccination certificates overseas.<br />Dogs are regularly vaccinated against rabies, <br />a virus that is potentially lethal <br />to both canines and humans. .<br />The countries include China, Egypt, Brazil, <br />Kenya, Russia, Peru and more. .<br />According to a CDC estimate, 6% of dogs <br />that come into the U.S. originate in <br />countries considered to be <br />high risk for canine rabies.<br />The CDC said that those wishing to bring a dog in from abroad must apply for a special permit.<br />This temporary action is necessary to ensure the health and safety of dogs imported into the United States and to protect the public's health against <br />the reintroduction, CDC via statement .<br />However, the agency added that permits <br />for emotional support animals or <br />pet adoptions will not be issued
