The birth of Lord Krishna, believed to be the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu, is celebrated every year with much fervour. The festival was celebrated enthusiastically at various temples of Mathura and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, a region associated with the legend of Lord Krishna.
