Philippines journalist Maria Ressa, who won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday with Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov, learned of her win during a live forum broadcast on the Centre for Independent Journalism's Facebook page.<br /><br />Maria said she was shocked and that it was a recognition of how hard it is being a journalist today.<br /><br />She said this during a regional discussion on press freedom and the survival of independent journalism with speakers Arif Zulkifl from Tempo, Indonesia and Steven Gan from Malaysiakini.<br /><br />Steven congratulated Maira on the award and said that it will inspire all journalists to continue their struggle.<br /><br />Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov were given the award "for their courageous fight for freedom of expression in the Philippines and Russia," Chairwoman Berit Reiss-Andersen of the Norwegian Nobel Committee told a news conference.
