Boris Johnson announced that the rate will rise by 1.25% next April to help the NHS recover from the pandemic as well as improve social care services. <br /><br />But the announcement has faced much criticism, including from the Conservative party, especially as it was promised the rates wouldn't be raised in the 2019 manifesto.
