A war veteran from Maidstone was remembered with a unique ceremony in his home town today.<br /><br />Des Page was a D-Day glider pilot and once avoided capture during the war by swimming in a freezing cold river hidden under a fur coat.<br /><br />Fundraisers paid for a helicopter to fly his 94 year friend and fellow pilot Ian from Wales to the funeral in the county town.
