Hong Kong Olympian Siobhan Haughey has shattered the 200m freestyle world record at the Fina World Swimming Championships . The 24-year-old Olympic medallist came in at 1:50.31 seconds to a gold medal at the December 16, 2021, event in Abu Dhabi. Her time broke Swedish swimmer Sarah Sjostrom’s record of 1:50.43 set at the World Cup in 2017. Haughey’s win was the first medal for Hong Kong at the championships held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
