A man has died and up to 10 others have been injured after a vehicle and trailer carrying 11 people fell into a river when a bridge collapsed. <br /><br />Police say they were called at around 4.25pm today (Tues) to Moor Lane in Roeburndale, a rural part of Lancashire, following a serious accident on a farm.<br /><br />Reports suggested a Polaris Ranger 4x4 vehicle, which was pulling a trailer, had fallen into a river after a bridge gave way.<br /><br />Police said eleven people were in the ranger vehicle and trailer at the time and sadly, one man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.<br /><br />Emergency services including police, ambulance crews, fire crews and mountain rescue attended the scene.<br /><br />Police said road closures are now in place, and they expected them to continue for some time.<br /><br />They added that an investigation into the circumstances around the incident is underway and the Health and Safety Executive had been informed.<br /><br />Det Insp Kirsty Wyatt, of Lancashire Police, said: “My thoughts are very much with all those involved in what is a very sad and tragic incident.<br /><br />“One man has sadly died, and a number of people have suffered serious injuries.<br /><br />“At this time, we believe the vehicle was pulling the trailer, containing a number of people, when a bridge gave way. Those people were then thrown from the vehicle and trailer.<br /><br />A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our investigation is at very early stages and enquiries are ongoing to establish what happened.”<br /><br />"Five fire engines, including one from Cumbria and one from North Yorkshire, several special appliances and the air support unit attended initial reports of a road traffic collision on Moor Lane in Roeburndale.
