Arizona Priest Resigns After , Incorrectly Baptizing Thousands.<br />NPR reports an Arizona priest has <br />left his position after being found <br />to have incorrectly performed <br />baptisms his entire career.<br />Catholics baptized by Reverend <br />Andres Arango may be shocked to find their religious rites have never been valid.<br />According to the Catholic Diocese <br />of Phoenix, Arango used the wrong phrasing while performing baptisms <br />until June 17, 2021.<br />While performing a baptism ceremony, <br />the reverend would say, "we baptize <br />you in the Name of the Father and <br />of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.".<br />The diocese explained the reverend <br />should have said, "I baptize.".<br />It is not the community <br />that baptizes a person and incorporates them into the Church of Christ; rather, it is Christ, and Christ alone... , statement from Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, via NPR.<br />If you were baptized using <br />the wrong words, that means your baptism is invalid, <br />and you are not baptized. , statement from Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, via NPR.<br />Arango has supposedly used <br />incorrect phrasing performing baptisms since entering the priesthood in 1995.<br />The priest was apologetic for the harm his actions may have caused the community. He resigned from his post on Feb. 1.<br />Though he remains in good standing with the diocese, Arango says he intends "to help remedy this and heal those affected."
