Melasti is a Hindu prayer ceremony. The purpose of holding it is for self-purification and sacred objects belonging to the temple (pralingga or pratima Ida Bhatara and all its equipment).<br /><br />Melasti is performed on the beach or lake, with the intention of washing away all bad deeds using the water of life (sea water).
