A repairman sent to fix a boiler was caught on doorbell camera taking a customer's £300 designer coat - and shoving it in his van.

Red Edwards, 22, asked his neighbour to check their Ring doorbell footage after his North Face puffa jacket went missing.

He had returned home earlier this month (8/3) to find that the clothing was not hanging on its usual peg - and got suspicious.

Watching the video back, Red was shocked to see the man sent to fix his leaky boiler quickly stuffing the coat into his work van before driving off.

The customer services worker, from Stamford, Lincs., immediately complained to Matthews and Tannert Ltd, who sent the repairman.

The company said in a statement that the matter has now been resolved.

Red, who said the coat was taken on his birthday, said: "The night after the repairman came, I was hunting everywhere for my coat and going slightly insane.

"I knew I had cash in the pocket and it was actually my birthday the day that he stole my coat.

"I'd been out the night before so knew I had cash in the pockets and came downstairs to retrieve it and put it into my piggy bank.

"I looked absolutely everywhere in my home and that was when I put the pieces together and knew the coat had left with the boiler repairman for some reason.

"My mum called the company the next day and explained the coat had gone. We asked my neighbour if she would kindly check the Ring doorbell footage for us.

"She sent [it] to my mum who shrieked, 'I don't bloody believe it! The coat is here, the jammy b******!'

"When I saw the footage, I actually felt rather relieved to know that I hadn't gone mad and just lost my coat.

"It confirmed all my suspicions so I was quite pleased, but also just completely shocked.

"Out of everything he could have stolen, he decided to take the North Face puffer that was hanging up.

"I felt outraged and pretty distraught too for the fact that he hadn't just left with my £300 coat, but also my birthday money that I had left in the pockets in my own home with full trust.

Annoyed Red then sent the clip to Matthews and Tannert Ltd - and claims they initially dismissed his allegations.

But, after he sent the footage, Red says the coat was returned to him as well as £300 in compensation, a box of chocolates and flowers.
