This seagull got caught upside down in Sunderland, England, on April 30, 2022, after a fishing lure lodged in its foot got stuck on a utility line 30 feet in the air.<br /><br />Firefighters with the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, along with personnel from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, threw up a rope to catch the hook and used the utility line as a makeshift zip line to slide the bird to safety.<br /><br />Veterinarians removed the hook from the bird’s foot, and it was brought to a local animal rescue charity, where it is reportedly recovering before being returned to the wild.<br /><br />This is a reminder that discarded and lost fishing gear has an incredibly detrimental effect on wildlife. Please clean up after yourselves.
