Calling a Man Bald <br />Equates to Sexual Harassment, UK Judge Rules.<br />The case centered on using the word <br />"bald" as an insult.<br />In making the ruling, a UK tribunal stated that when used as an insult, "bald" becomes a "protected characteristic of sex.".<br />For the tribunal, using the word in this way is similar to commenting on a women's breasts.<br />At the center of the case is Tony Finn, an electrician who worked for the British Bung Manufacturing Company.<br />Finn had been fired from the company after nearly two and half decades of employment.<br />He claimed to have been threatened by his supervisor and that he was called a "bald c---.".<br />For the tribunal, the profanity was not the central issue of the case.<br />Finn was reportedly known to use profanity himself, during the course of a workday.<br />Instead, the tribunal found that the use <br />of the word bald as an insult <br />violated Finn's "dignity.".<br />[It was a] violation against the claimant’s [Finn] dignity, it created an intimidating ... environment for him, , UK Tribunal, via CNBC.<br />... it was done for that purpose, and it related to the <br />claimant’s sex, UK Tribunal, via CNBC.<br />Although, as we find, industrial language was commonplace on this West Yorkshire factory floor, UK Tribunal, via CNBC.<br />... in our judgment Mr King crossed the line by making remarks personal to the claimant about his appearance, UK Tribunal, via CNBC.<br />The amount of compensation Finn will receive as a result of the ruling has yet to be decided
