stronomers led by the Australian National University believe they have discovered the <br />fastest-growing black hole – which consumes the equivalent of one Earth every second.<br /><br />The black hole was spotted about half way across the universe but had previously been missed due to its position close to the Milky Way.<br /><br />The origin of what is known as “supermassive black holes” is a “deep mystery”, explains Christopher Reynolds, an astrophysicist at Cambridge University.<br /><br />Understanding how these black holes grew is a key goal for astronomers.
