Uber To Reintroduce , Shared Rides.<br />CNN reports rideshare company Uber <br />will once again start offering shared <br />rides in some major US cities.<br />Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Uber's carpool option was on hiatus for over two years.<br />The revamped option, UberX Share, will now be available to users in nine US cities including New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.<br />Top rideshare companies Uber and Lyft attempted to boost the use of shared <br />rides before the pandemic.<br />Uber officials say UberX Share "reimagines the future of shared rides with greater efficiency and safety top of mind." .<br />Uber riders should expect <br />"an upfront discount and up to 20% off the total fare, <br />if matched with a co-rider along the way," according to officials.<br />Uber will reportedly limit the number of riders using its carpool option for now. .<br />The company says masking is <br />optional but recommended.<br />Uber officials hope to make transportation affordable and accessible, "especially in the current economic climate,".<br />as inflated gas prices continue to <br />burden all drivers in the country.
