<p>The House of Grimaldi came into being back in 1297 when Francesco Grimaldi took control of Monaco. It wasn't until the 20th Century however that the surname Grimaldi was given to the royal family of Monaco. Today, Albert II is the head of the House and the Sovereign Prince.</p>
