A five-year-old has been hailed as one of Britain's brainiest kids - after reciting pi to more than 100 places.

Haigen Oakes was playing on his father, David Oakes', phone calculator when he discovered the mathematical constant, and quickly learned it off by heart.

And, to mum Jessica Saunders' amazement, he recently reeled off the number to a staggering 100 places.

Pi is an irrational number, meaning its decimal places never end - nor enter a permanently repeating pattern.

Jessica, 33, praised Haigen as a little boffin and says he is excelling in all subjects at school.

The mum-of-two, from Norwich, said: "Haigen's favourite toy is a calculator.

"I have to buy him new ones all the time because they run out of battery - I think that says a lot."

The brainy tot developed a natural talent for figures in his younger years, a lot of which comes down to his extraordinarily good memory.

Filmed on 14th July 2022
