On Monday, the UK could see its hottest day on record, with temperatures reaching 41 degrees Celsius.<br /><br />The Met Office has issued a red heat warning for much of England, from York and Manchester to London and the south-east.<br /><br />High temperatures are also forecast in the rest of the UK, with amber warnings issued in the rest of England, Wales, and parts of Scotland.<br /><br />The hot weather will continue on Tuesday, with nightly lows in the mid-twenties expected, before cooling off on Wednesday.<br /><br />People should travel only "if absolutely necessary" on Monday and Tuesday, according to Network Rail, with some cancellations already announced and speed limitations in place across the network.<br /><br />Experts have recommended people to drink water, draw their curtains as much as possible, and check on friends and family.<br /><br />Because of human-caused climate change, heatwaves have become more common, more intense, and stay longer.
