China Suspends Cooperations With US, Sanctions Pelosi After Taiwan Trip<br />The Foreign Ministry of China announced the suspensions on Aug. 5<br />Among the countermeasures are cancellations of several meetings between U.S. and China officials,<br />... and the cancellation of an annual naval meeting held under the military maritime consultation mechanism between the two nations.China also suspended climate talks <br />between the two nations.<br />The countermeasures were announced in response to <br />U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.<br />The one-China principle is a geo-political philosophy under which China does not recognize the autonomy of Taiwan.<br />Pelosi responded on Aug. 5 to the news that China had sanctioned her, describing her Taiwan visit as "status quo."<br />Pelosi's visit to Taiwan was the first such visit by a House Speaker in a quarter of a decade.
