ENGLAND's Commonwealth Games hockey match against Canada was marred by a vicious brawl.<br /><br />And a player was sent off after "DROWNING" an opponent in a fit of rage.<br /><br />The brutal scenes occurred in Thursday's Commonwealth Games battle between England and Canada.<br /><br />The hosts were leading the match 4-1 when fighting broke out.<br /><br />An England player appeared to bring down a Canadian opponent with his hockey stick before receiving a yellow card.<br /><br />But a melee quickly ensued between England's Chris Griffiths and Canada's Balraj Panesar afterwards.<br /><br />Griffiths seemed to tug on Panesar's staff, drawing blind fury from his opponent.<br /><br />Panesar attacked grabbing Griffiths' shirt as the two men collided.<br /><br />However, Panesar took things up a notch when he then grabbed Griffiths's neck, appearing to choke the England ace momentarily.<br /><br />Griffiths responded like this, grabbing Panesar's shirt as he pushed him away.<br /><br />Players from both sides stepped in to defuse the situation.<br /><br />And Griffiths picked up a yellow card for his troubles.<br /><br />However, Panesar did not go off so lightly.<br /><br />He was shown a straight red card for his actions on the field.<br /><br />And England took advantage and went up 5-1 almost instantly.<br /><br />They then finished the game on a high thanks to their men's advantage, winning 11-2.<br /><br />And the result means that England will play Australia in the semi-finals.
