JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar on Tuesday met Bihar Governor Phagu Chauhan and handed his resignation as the state chief minister. This comes after the JDU confirmed its split from the BJP.

Earlier, Nitish Kumar held a meeting with all MLAs and MPs of JD(U) at the chief minister's residence on Tuesday amid talks of splitting from the BJP.

Nitish may now seek to revive his hope of being seen as a long-term rival to Prime Minister Narendra Modi nationally. There is also a theory of Nitish Kumar, once out of the NDA, emerging as one of the prime ministerial candidates in 2024 if the Congress does not do too well.
