Marcus Rashford has been praised for opening up about his struggles at Manchester United following their 1-0 win over West Ham United.

The 24-year-old headed home the winner on Sunday evening to make it eight games unbeaten for Erik ten Hag's men and move them up to fifth in the Premier League table.

Rashford's now scored seven goals in all competitions this term, two more than his tally in the entirety of last season.

United finished sixth in 21/22, registering their lowest-ever Premier League points tally too. Rashford looked disinterested throughout the campaign, which supporters picked up on.

After being named Player of the Match by Sky Sports, Rashford opened up on his mental struggles during a difficult period for the Red Devils which saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked.

Rashford declared he's in a different 'headspace' to this time 12 months ago thanks to changes made at United.

"To be honest there's a complete different energy around the whole club, that for a start puts me in a better headspace," Rasford admitted.

"I feel really motivated. Last year I struggled at times, mental things, not really my performance but off the pitch. That's the big difference from last season."

Jamie Redknapp then asked Rashford if he feels pundits need to take off the pitch issues into account when rating a player's performance.

Rashford replied: "Your job is to speak about what happens on the pitch. That's what you have to do. So for us we have to get into the right headspace for games.

"Too often last season, I wasn't in the right headspace so I wasn't surprised at what was being said."

Fans on social media have had their say and completely agree with Rashford's assessment.

One person commented: "If kids are looking for a footballer as a role model then be like Marcus Rashford. He comes across so humble and eloquent during interviews."

A second put: "Rashford's interview with Sky was so telling."

Someone tweeted: "Honest from Marcus Rashford on improvement this season."

While another added: "Fair play to Jamie Redknapp for holding his hands up."

United return to action against Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday evening. They need to win by two goals or more to seal first place in Group E.
