<p>Alfred Joseph Hitchcock was born in Leytonstone, England. He enjoyed one of his first jobs in advertising and this led him towards a career in the cinema. He took inspiration from German filmmaking during his time there and his 1929 film, Blackmail, was Britain's first "talkie".</p>
