COVID-19 Sniffer Dogs and Portable Sweat Test Device<br /><br />Chula’s Success in COVID-19 Sniffer Dog Training and Portable COVID-19 Sweat Test Development<br /><br />People who contracted COVID-19 have a common trace of chemicals in their sweat. Dogs can detect the distinct scent composed of volatile organic compounds from infected people and single them out from others.<br /><br />So, Chula researchers from the Faculties of Veterinary Science, Medicine, and Science have cooperated in training COVID-19 sniffer dogs and developing portable sweat test kits.<br /><br />“We have trained six dogs who achieved 96.5 percent accuracy. They are Thailand’s first set of bio-detection dogs,” said Professor Dr. Kaywalee Chatdarong, head of the project Sniffer Dog for COVID-19 Detection.<br /><br />The data was then used to develop a probing device to detect the special volatile organic compounds in the sweat.
