Supreme Court , Temporarily Upholds , New York Gun Law.<br />On January 11, the Supreme Court voted to allow <br />a controversial New York gun control law to remain<br />in effect as legal challenges to the legislation continue.<br />NBC reports that an appeals court <br />had attempted to block the ruling <br />pending further litigation.<br />The controversial law allows <br />individuals the right to bear <br />arms outside their own homes. .<br />While there were no dissenting votes,<br />justices expressed that the ruling is not <br />"expressing any view on the merits of the case.".<br />In November, U.S. District Judge <br />Glenn Suddaby struck down a number <br />of provisions included in the law. .<br />One of those provisions was meant <br />to ban firearms from being carried <br />into a number of "sensitive locations.".<br />Those "sensitive locations" include <br />healthcare facilities, churches, parks, <br />entertainment venues and other gathering places.<br />The judge also blocked a provision <br />that requires potential gun buyers <br />from proving "good moral character." .<br />The new Concealed Carry Improvement Act <br />requires applicants to provide contact information of family members and character references. .<br />The new law would also force applicants <br />to provide information about who they live with <br />and details about their social media accounts
