Bin man dies following 'incident' with refuse lorry while collecting rubbish on his rounds in UK city

A bin man has died following an 'incident' involving a refuse lorry while collecting rubbish on his morning rounds.<br /><br />Police, fire and ambulance crews raced to the scene on Guild Road, in Foleshill, Coventry, to find the victim in a critical condition at 10am this morning (Thurs).<br /><br />Despite the efforts of medics, the worker, who was a senior member of the council's collection team, could not be saved. <br /><br />Coventry City Council said services had been suspended for the rest of the day to protect the welfare of their crew.<br /><br />A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident involving a refuse collection lorry on Guild Road, Coventry at 9.58am. <br /><br />"Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a critical care car from The Air Ambulance Service attended the scene along with police and fire colleagues. <br /><br />"On arrival crews found a man in a critical condition. <br /><br />"Sadly, nothing could be done to save the man and was confirmed deceased on scene."<br /><br />The city council also said it was co-operating with West Midlands Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).<br /><br />A spokesperson for Coventry City Council said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the senior crew member who has tragically lost his life while at work this morning. <br /><br />"The Health and Safety Executive has launched an investigation into this tragic incident, and we will be cooperating fully with them and the police as part of that.<br /><br />“We are offering our full support to the crew involved and the wider workforce."
