Secret Service , Releases Report Detailing , Trends in Mass Shootings.<br />The U.S. Secret Service previously established <br />the National Threat Assessment Center to <br />monitor trends that could threaten the nation. .<br />On January 25, the Secret Service <br />published a report detailing trends in mass attacks <br />aimed at helping to prevent future tragedies. .<br />NBC reports that the 60-page report found that <br />the single most common motive for mass attacks <br />was a personal grievance of some sort.<br />Meanwhile, 25% of the attackers <br />studied were found to be motivated by <br />hateful ideologies or conspiracy theories.<br />NBC reports that the study details 173 attacks <br />that injured three or more people in public <br />spaces between 2016 and 2020.<br />According to Lina Alathari, the chief of the Secret <br />Service’s National Threat Assessment Center, the trends <br />in the report could help leaders identify future threats.<br />Over 75% of all attacks involved <br />firearms, and of those attacks, <br />80% resulted in at least one death.<br />In more than 25% of all the mass <br />shootings, attackers had obtained <br />the firearms used in the attack illegally.<br />Attackers armed with weapons other<br />than guns fatally wounded victims in less <br />than 50% of attacks detailed by the report.<br />Our research informs policy, <br />and we really hope communities take <br />preventative action to make sure that <br />they are mitigating any possible risk <br />of a tragedy like this happening again, Lina Alathari, Chief of the Secret Service’s <br />National Threat Assessment Center, via NBC
