Canada votes to take in 10,000 Uyghur refugees amid Chinese pressure to force their return<br />The motion to accept 10,000 Uyghur refugees who left China but are now under pressure to go back was unanimously approved by the Canadian parliament.<br />The motion to declare Beijing's treatment of Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims in its northwest Xinjiang area as genocide was first introduced by Canadian parliamentarians in February 2021.<br />Rights organisations estimate that at least 1 million Uyghurs and other primarily Muslim minorities are detained in internment camps in the area, where China is also charged with forcing women to get abortions and enforcing forced labour.<br /><br />#canada<br />#uyghurmuslims<br />#uyghurinchina<br />#xinjiangchina
