Gabriel Martinelli threw his arms out in celebration before he scored against Aston Villa on Saturday as the winger slotted home Arsenal's fourth.

The Gunners won a thrilling match 4-2 after goals despite trailing twice in the game, and have now moved back on top of the Premier League.

It wasn't Arsenal's greatest performance as they trailed twice following goals from Ollie Watkins and a superb team goal finished off by Phillipe Coutinho but found themselves level after an hour thanks to strikes from Bukayo Saka and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

They then took the lead for the first time with a bizarre own goal in injury time, as Jorginho's thundering strike from outside the box came down off the crossbar and bounced in off Emiliano Martinez in the Villa goal.

Martinelli added another after the home side pushed everyone up for a final attack, as he ran through on goal completely unopposed and was able to celebrate before scoring.

The Brazil international's goal came off the bench after he was dropped in favor of Leandro Trossard.

Despite a tricky performance, the Gunners' win on Saturday will do them a world of good as they look to win their first Premier League title since 2004.

It comes after a tricky spell that saw them drop eight points in three games after dropping just seven in their previous 19.

Arsenal's drop-in seemed to have come at the worst possible time, with City returning to somewhere near their best after scoring 13 goals in their last five games.

A loss against Villa would have allowed the champions to extend a three-point lead when they face Nottingham Forest, but now Pep Guardiola's side can only go level and Arsenal will have a game in hand.

Speaking after the dramatic win, Arsenal's hero Jorginho told BT Sport: 'That's the Premier League! That's why it's the best league in the world, it's beautiful.

'It was very important after the last results we had, we weren't producing our game but then we had a talk at half time, went back to basics, and produced the game.'

Arsenal will next be in action when they face Leicester next Saturday. .......
