In this video, we showcase the restoration of a beautiful antique cleaver with a unique pine cone handle. we can see that it is a well-crafted and handmade piece. The cleaver was found in a rusty and worn condition but with a little elbow grease and some TLC, It was restored by hand sanding and then treated with an ASMR video to make it feel more tactile.
I was able to bring it back to its former glory. The finished product is a one-of-a-kind, handmade cleaver that is not only fully functional but also a stunning conversation piece. Follow along as I guide you through the step-by-step process of restoring this antique treasure.
During the restoration of the antique rusty cleaver, I also had to make a transformation, so that the cleaver became a goldfish. The special thing about the restoration was that I will make the new handle from pine cones with the help of "Epoxy Resin" and make the fish scales all over the cleaver using The metal etching process.
First I used a paper cutter, and wire brush to remove crunchy rust, then used electrolysis to remove rust, All of the rust on the cleaver was gone after 3 hours of electrolysis. Then I wire-brushed everything after washing it with water. The rough contour was then created with a belt grinder. I ground down the sides until no pitting could be seen, but hammer marks remained, I began with 120 grit and progressed to 240 when all of the scratches from the belt sander were removed. Then, at the conclusion, 400, 1000, and 1200. I was then able to mirror polish it with the cotton buffing wheel because the surface was fine enough. I resharpened the cleaver with a grindstone.
I printed a fish scales design onto the photoresist then I laminated it onto all pieces of the cleaver, Now I soaked the old cleaver in salted water and the cleaver connected to "+" wire and the steel scrap comes to "-". After 2 hours etching process dissolved the exposed metal. In this way the forging marks and deep holes were covered in fish scales, then I layered the brass on top of it with the help of a brass brush which added to its glory. you can also easily replicate the process.
It's time to make a new handle out of pine cone and epoxy resin, After 24 hours when the resin hardened, I shaped the handle with the help of a lathe machine, and used lacquer for shining.

In the end, we are left with a fully restored cleaver that is as functional as it is beautiful.
