Mars Avalanches Uncover Dark Sand, Triggering Slope Streaks

The beautiful patterns are thought to be formed by avalanches revealing dark, coarse sand underneath. Scientists think other slope streaks on Mars could be caused by extremely salty water flowing deep underground.
