Lionel Messi appeared to head down the tunnel while his teammates stayed on the pitch after Paris Saint-Germain suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Rennes on Sunday.<br /><br />Karl Toko Ekambi opened the scoring for Rennes ahead of half-time before Arnaud Kalimuendo doubled his side’s lead early into the second half at Parc des Princes.<br /><br />Christophe Galtier’s men, who were dumped out of the Champions League this month by Bayern Munich, struggled to turn the tide of the match in their favor.<br /><br />Following their Ligue 1 defeat to Rennes, footage emerged of PSG players spotted on the pitch and applauding the Parc des Princes faithful.<br /><br />However, the footage also showed a visibly dejected Messi marching down the tunnel and straight into the locker room while his PSG teammates were on the pitch.<br /><br />A second added: “Please let him leave. Like they don’t deserve him at all.”<br /><br />“What did they expect? PSG fans are so annoying,” another tweeted.<br /><br />While a fourth wrote: “He needs to take a pay cut and go back to Barcelona.”<br /><br />One Twitter user posted: “He’s definitely coming back to Barca.”<br /><br />Ahead of the Rennes match, Messi’s name was met with boos by some PSG fans when the Parc des Princes announcer confirmed that he would be in the starting XI.<br /><br />Messi is out of contract with PSG in the summer and the Argentine forward’s future in the French capital has been plunged into serious doubt in recent months.<br /><br />The 2022 World Cup winner has been linked with a sensational return to Barcelona, as well as being subject to intense transfer interest from the MLS and Saudi Arabia.<br /><br />Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo insisted that the Camp Nou is Messi’s “home” and believes his return “would help us a lot” in their bid to win the Champions League.<br /><br />“I would love it if he could come back. He is the best player in the world and this is his home,” he told Infobae.<br /><br />“His return would help us a lot to try to win another Champions League. Hopefully, there are chances to have him again. We all want him by our side.”
