Glasgow headlines 11 April: 5-year-old dies after being hit by bus in Govanhill

A five year old boy has died after being hit by a bus in Govanhill.<br /><br />He was treated by paramedics at the scene on Calder Street but was pronounced dead soon after.<br /><br />A nine year old girl was also injured and was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children where her condition is described as serious but stable.<br /><br />Next up, a 21 year old man was taken to hospital following a stabbing at Braehead Shopping Centre.<br /><br />Police Scotland confirmed that two men, aged 18 and 22, have been arrested and charged in connection with serious assault, and inquiries are ongoing. <br /><br />The victim’s condition is currently unknown. <br /><br />And in other news, Glasgow City Council is set to increase allotment rent rates by almost 400 percent next year.<br /><br />From March 2024 the annual payment will rise from £34.50 to £170, which the authority has blamed on challenging financial circumstances and the need to make £50 million in savings. <br /><br />Rates had been frozen since 2012.
