The first coronation of a British monarch in 70 years has taken place today (May 6).<br /><br />King Charles III has been crowned the reigning monarch at a service at Westminster Abbey on May 6, almost seven decades after his mother Queen Elizabeth II had her coronation on June 2 1953.<br /><br />Local people flocked to Manchester landmarks to witness this historic event.<br /><br />Manchester Cathedral opened its doors after morning service at 9.30am and welcomed locals and visitors from around the world - including an American woman who flew all the way from Minnesota to be here for the celebrations. <br /><br />Manchester City Council set up screens in Piccadilly Gardens for people to gather together and soak up the atmosphere with some food and drink. <br /><br />We went down to talk to people ahead of the Coronation ceremony.
