A Nasa-funded project has released the real ‘sound’ of Earth’s magnetic environment, including the northern and southern lights.<br /><br />Nasa was able to record the sound of solar plasma striking Earth, which causes the magnetic field lines and plasma around Earth to vibrate.<br /><br />It is usually too low a frequency for the human ear to pick up.<br /><br />However, thanks to an ‘audification’ process, a team has been able to allow us to hear the ‘solar sounds’ for the first time.<br /><br />Nasa’s Heliophysics Audified: Resonances in Plasmas (HARP) project, which released the recording, studies the auroras borealis and australis.
