The Met Police evicted more than 40 squatters staying in the Autonomous Winter Shelter on June 1. The shelter had been using a disused convent in Shadwell since September 2022, but had received a letter on April 30 2023 saying they had to vacate the premises.<br /><br />An organiser of the shelter however said they believed any police intervention to be potentially unlawful, and described the eviction as a "power play" by the Met.
