New bin hubs have been installed in the Southside of Glasgow as the council works to improve health and safety for refuse workers and make collections more efficient. <br /><br />The hubs will end backcourt collections across Pollokshields, while the new bins can take more material than the previous setup. <br /><br />The bins are to be used by residents living in tenement buildings.<br /><br />Next, a new wind farm which will help power the production of Irn Bru has officially opened in Cumbernauld. <br /><br />The 50 turbine farm can now supply the Barr factory with electricity following its six year development. <br /><br />Energy Minister Gillian Martin welcomed the project, saying it’s ones like these that are key to helping deliver on net zero ambitions and create lasting legacies for communities. <br /><br />And in other news, Glasgow City Council has said the upcoming UCI Cycling World Championships will offer a ‘once in a generation’ opportunity to boost the sport amongst Glaswegians. <br /><br />The competition is due to be hosted by the city in early August, with a report on wheeled sports suggesting it offers a chance to create a lasting impact on participation.
