A couple were left in hysterics after planting strawberries that grew in the shape of tiny penises.

Rowan Kelly's fruity crop began to dangle from the stems of his plant within weeks of planting the seeds when he moved in with his partner Liam, 21.

He said he wanted to see if he could successfully grow something.

But he was left stunned while monitoring the plant's progression to see they'd all taken the shape of male genitalia.

Hospital administrative officer Rowan, 22, joked: "It turns out I can grow something successfully - they just happen to also be incredibly lifelike.

"Me and my boyfriend couldn't stop laughing at it, he joked that only I could grow something that looked like that, with it being especially funny due to me being a gay man.

"It has definitely caused a lot of laughs. We already tried one unsurprisingly and they taste really good."

Rowan bought the plant from the Co-Op for £1.25 a fortnight ago and has watered it every morning since.

But amazingly, every strawberry on the plant has developed into the same phallic shape.

Rowan added: “I’ve recently started to pick up gardening and having moved into our first flat together, my boyfriend and I decided to try grow something.

"I got a strawberry plant from the local Co-op and put it on our windowsill and watered it every morning.

"As the strawberries started to grow, they resembled a familiar shape more and more each day which we both thought was hilarious.

"I’m very surprised but it’s honestly one of the funniest things that’s happened to us recently.

"I haven't properly grown anything before so I assumed it would just be a normal strawberry plant but the berries ended up looking very interesting."

Rowan said it hasn't put him off his new horticultural hobby and he's planning to grow tomatoes next.

He added: "Look forward to some oddly-shaped tomatoes in our window coming this summer."
