Clashes between residents and police continued for the third night in France following the death of 17-year-old Nahel M.

Shocking footage from the Paris suburb of Colombes shows debris and fires in the streets in scenes, more akin to a warzone, than the French capital.

Windows were smashed and several businesses were looted including a Tabac shop and a grocery store.

Several cars were also set alight as police desperately tried to regain order.

Amine, 24, who didn't want to reveal his last name, said: "A corner shop. An Auchan store and a grocery were stormed.

"The police abandoned the city [and left] it in the hands of the rioters."

The rioting began on Tuesday after French police shot dead 17-year-old Nahel M.

The shooting of Nahel M, who was of Algerian descent, has fuelled arguments around racism and police brutality within the country.

The officer who shot Nahel has since apologised to the boy's family and been charged with voluntary homicide.

The footage was filmed in the early hours of Friday.
