Islanders in Orkney react to the prospect of distancing themselves from the UK, after the Islands Council passed a motion to explore new ways to govern, including potentially rekindling previous “Nordic connections”. Orkney was under Norwegian and Danish control until 1472. <br /> <br />While one islander was optimistic about exploring the potential “benefits” outside of the UK, another labelled the move “drastic”.
