He is said to have been the one who completed the complex calculations necessary for the mission. He also worked as a professor at several universities in India, including the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and the Indian Statistical Institute.<br /><br />In the early 1970s, Singh began to suffer from schizophrenia. He was admitted to a mental hospital several times, and his career came to a halt.<br /><br />In 1989, Singh disappeared while on a train. He was found four years later in a village in Bihar, living in poverty and with a beard down to his chest. He was taken to a hospital in Delhi, where he was treated for his mental illness.<br /><br />After his recovery, Singh returned to teaching at a university in Bihar. However, he was never able to regain the same level of mathematical ability that he had once possessed.<br /><br />In 2020, the Indian government awarded Singh the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India.
