Dashcam footage captures the moment a banned driver “almost killed” an officer by ramming a police car off the road during a high-speed chase.<br /><br />Nathan Ferguson, 24, was captured slamming his tipper van into the police vehicle, causing it to spin off a dual carriageway on 16 February.<br /><br />A court heard how he had jumped several red lights before driving the wrong way down the A19 between North Tyneside and County Durham during the morning pursuit.<br /><br />He also caused other motorists to take evasive action with his dangerous driving before shunting Sergeant Dave Roberts onto a grass verge.<br /><br />The motor patrol officer suffered whiplash injuries to his head, neck and chest due to the impact of the collision.<br /><br />Ferguson later abandoned his van near Hylton Bridge, Sunderland, and fled on foot before being arrested.<br /><br />He has been jailed for 30 months and handed a 27-month driving disqualification after he admitted to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and assault causing actual bodily harm.
