Students and teachers erupted in celebration as India's Chandrayaan-3 made a historic moon landing on Wednesday, 23 August.<br /><br />The country’s third moon rocket conducted a soft landing on the lunar south pole.<br /><br />It is the first lander to touch down on this area of the moon.<br /><br />Today's feat made India the fourth country in the world to achieve a soft landing on Earth’s satellite.<br /><br />The moon’s south pole is covered in water-ice in some permanently shadowed areas, making it of significant interest to scientists as it could support human habitation in the future.
