Glasgow headlines 24 August: Death of bus driver now treated as murder case

Police are now treating the death of 23-year-old bus driver Gordon Stirling as murder. <br /><br />Stirling passed away in Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital from injuries after the bus he was driving crashed into a Ford Transit on the A77.<br /><br />Police are appealing for information that may aid their investigation. <br /><br />Next, demolition work has begun at the Easter Queenslie recycling depot, paving the way for a new centre which is set to be the biggest in the UK. <br /><br />The project is a joint endeavour between Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government and is set for completion in 2026.<br /><br />The new facility will replace the material recovery centre at Blochairn.<br /><br />And finally, firefighters in Glasgow are protesting plans to cut the service’s budget and reduce the number of fire appliances. <br /><br />This follows the release of statistics revealing the number of accidental and deliberate fires in the city has increased from last year. <br />
